I've always had a passion for helping people and businesses to be the best that they can be. I started my career in HR, developing the skills to attract, retain and develop top talent. Then I realised that I wanted to do all of that and more, so I made my first rebellious career move into sales.  Over the last 15 years I've enjoyed a wealth of commercial experience, working with some of the best and the brightest talent in the consumer products industry and helping to grow some of the biggest brands in the world. 

 

In 2023, at the age of 40, I realised I was ready for more once again so I took the decision to leave my commercial leadership role in a large global company. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, I loved my role and my team, but something inside was telling me there was better out there for me.

 

I’d worked since I was 14, the last time I took a proper break was to travel for 6 months after finishing uni….and even then I was back in employment a week after my return! The last few years had been so busy. Juggling a demanding career whilst raising my young family had left me with very little time to connect to my own wants & needs. I'd achieved all the goals I'd set for myself and I was just too busy to dream bigger.

When I chose to leave, I created a complete blank canvas and if I'm honest I panicked. In my commercial roles I was renowned for strategic thinking and yet there was no grand plan beyond this point. For someone motivated by targets and goals, it was extremely disorientating. I'm good at solving problems and had a reputation for creativity, yet I found myself all out of ideas.

 

Then I made a conscious decision to just let life flow for a bit.

Embracing this new found freedom I rediscovered play, I sought out new experiences and I broadened my network. I had no goals, no time limit, no expectations. I quickly discovered that each interaction sparked a fresh idea, my creativity exploded like never before and I became a happier human.

Then it dawned on me, we ALL have huge creative potential but we're being limited by our mindsets and stifled by our environments. As a society we still have big problems to solve, and our organisations are crying out for more creativity, but we spend too long worrying about the expectations of others, operating under high stress and surrounded by like minded people who don't challenge our thinking.

 

If we want to grow our creativity we need to diversify our experiences, to expand our networks, and to free ourselves from constraints.  I believe creativity is a skill that all individuals and organisations need to truly flourish, so I founded Rebel Spark to help inspire more people to uncover their own sparks and unleash their boundless potential.
